Journalist, The Irish Times
Pamela Duncan
Pamela Duncan is a data journalist with The Irish Times. She can usually be found at her desk poring over spreadsheets, reformatting PDFs, building interactive visualisations and cleaning, mapping and decoding data. Pamela is one of the main contributors to Irish Times Data which went live in February 2015. Since its launch Irish Times Data has published a wide variety of projects and topics including politics (How much did your TD spend per first preference vote?), education (Census figures raise concerns of ethnic segregation in schools), sport (Providing equal access to relevant data could help level GAA playing field) and transport (What’s the most reliable car in Ireland?). Some are long-term projects, such as an in-depth look at 20 years of donations made to Friends of Sinn Féin (Sinn Feins money), while other projects such as The Irish Times’ baby-name tool (Is your name going out of fashion?) have proven hugely popular among readers. She, along with the other members of The Irish Times Data team, aim to tell stories which interest, engage and inform readers. Wherever possible, the team make the data accessible to readers though interactive maps and graphics and/or publish the raw data through The Irish Times’ Databank.
