CTO
IBM Watson Europe
Duncan Anderson
Duncan is the CTO for IBM’s Watson Group in Europe. He works with customers and technologists of all types and backgrounds to help bring the promise of cognitive computing to reality.
Previously, Duncan was the IBM CTO for one of our major banking clients in the UK, where he lead the rush towards “finnovation” and the use of mobile and cloud. In an industry more traditionally associated with stability than innovation, Duncan oversaw a significant period of change.
Duncan is a keen follower of technology innovation and is often seen adorned with his Apple Watch and Mac adorned with space-invaders stickers. He is a huge proponent of rapid prototyping and likes to keep his fingers in the dirt by building iOS apps whenever he gets the chance.
Duncan is the holder of a 1st Class Honours Degree in Computing Science and started his career in the heady field of MVS systems programming. He was lucky to get into innovation at the start of the dot-com boom and was responsible for delivering the world’s first online interactive mortgage. The rest, as they say, is history.
Duncan lives with his wife and daughter in leafy Kent, the “Garden of England”, and commutes to London on a daily basis. He has recently learnt to swim, at far too late a stage in life, demonstrating that you are never too old to learn something new.
